Me quran font
From Tanzil
me_quran is a rich Arabic font designed by Meor Ridzuan to render quran texts looking like Madinah Mushaf. The font is available for private and non-commercial use, and can be downloaded freely from here.
Notes
- Different Tanween Shapes
- Two types of tanweens has been used in Madinah Mushaf to display tanweens in different places: the first type is used in the normal cases (i.e., in Izhar), and the second type is used to demonstrate Idgham and Ikhfa of the tanween.
- Since there is no standard support in Unicode for different tanween shapes used in Madinah Mushaf, me_quran font uses a combination of characters to render these different shapes. More precisely, a second-type tanween is simply obtained by adding a small meem after the normal (first-type) tanween. However, the resulting combination can be only seen properly in me_quran font. Using other fonts, you would see extra small meems around second-type tanweens if you enable "Different tanween shapes" upon downloading Uthmani quran text from our download page.
- Small Alefs
- me_quran font defines a new code point (U+65F) for small alefs, apart from the one used in Unicode (U+670) for superscript alefs. This is to better distinguish between small alefs (like in الرَّحْمَٰنِ) and superscript alefs (like in الْأَعْلَىٰ) in Uthmani texts. However, we only use the standard superscript alef (U+670) for presenting small alefs in our Uthmani quran text.
